Firefighters revive dog, save cat from Litchfield house fire

A cat was rescued and a dog was revived by firefighters following a fire at a home in Litchfield Friday, fire officials say.
It happened at home on Meadow Street just before 9 p.m.
Firefighters found heavy smoke conditions and had zero visibility inside the residence. They had to use a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire, which was underneath the floorboards on the second floor. It was quickly put out.
When firefighters initially responded, the homeowner was on the front lawn with an unresponsive dog. He also informed them that his cat was still inside. Members of the Litchfield Ambulance performed CPR on the dog while crews searched for the cat.
The dog regained a steady pulse, was breathing and taken to a veterinary.
The cat was found without injuries and returned to its owner.
Fire officials urge residents to regularly check and maintain their smoke detectors, replace batteries and have an escape plan in for place for their families.
