Dry and breezy conditions with mild temperatures could fuel and rapidly spread any fires that start on Friday.
Winds will diminish into the weekend with much cooler seasonable weather on the way. The threat for any wildfires will also diminish through the weekend with the chance for some much-needed rain Sunday night into Monday morning. Rain will be light and generally under a quarter of an inch.
Long Island is still in a moderate drought.
A weather pattern change is on the way with some cooler weather for next week and more chances for wet weather down the road.

OVERNIGHT: Mostly clear and cooler with lows near 43 degrees. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Sunrise: 6:32 a.m
FRIDAY: Fire weather warning. Mostly sunny, mild and breezy. Highs near 67 degrees with westerly winds 10 to 25 mph. Sunset 4:40 p.m Clear and chilly at night with lows near 40 degrees. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and cool with highs near 56 degrees. Lows near 39 degrees.
SUNDAY: Morning sunshine followed by late day clouds with the chance for rain showers into Sunday night. Highs near 62 degrees. Lows near 50 degrees.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with the chance for showers, mainly in the morning. Becoming mostly sunny for the afternoon. Highs near 67 degrees. Lows near 47 degrees.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and nice with highs near 60 degrees. Lows near 42 degrees.
