Long Islanders were warned Thursday about the possibility of brush fires due to the dry weather.
Officials say there will be increased patrols at state parks as a precaution. According to officials, there were about three dozen brush fires extinguished Wednesday in Suffolk County. Multiple fire departments were needed to battle fires in Brentwood, Centereach, Kings Park and two in Central Islip.
Officials say no one was injured in the blazes, but are urging residents to be careful with cigarettes and open flames.
The National Weather Service has been watching the fire danger closely and says it is close to issuing a red flag warning for the Island, the highest alert for brush fires.
