A fire tore through a building in Farmingville Thursday, destroying antique cars that were stored at the facility.

Fire officials got the call just after 2 p.m. on Horseblock Road between North Ocean and Old Medford avenues. Several surrounding fire departments jumped in to help Farmingville firefighters as they battled the fire for about three hours.

Officials say they came across several tents on the property that was thought to be vacant. News 12 is told the site was once an old lace mill that burned down.

Suffolk County arson is now investigating the cause of the fire.

Farmingville fire officials say there were a bunch of antique cars and propane bottles. They say the property was left as is after the lace mill closed.

The owner of the property says he purchased the land about a year ago to redevelop it. He says he was planning to restore the antique cars.
