Nassau police are accusing the North Merrick school district of hindering an investigation into an incident in which a fifth-grader threatened students with a pellet gun.
Nassau police said the unidentified fifth-grader brought the pellet gun to Camp Avenue Elementary School on Monday. The school district sent a letter to parents Tuesday confirming that an incident took place without providing specifics.
Parents expressed unease and frustration at the apparent lack of disclosure from the school's end.
Police agreed. "We aren't getting the information we need from the school to properly follow up on the parents' concerns, " said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone.
David Feller, the North Merrick superintendent of schools, refuted those claims. "That's absolutely not true," Feller said. "We are fully cooperating with the Nassau County police."
