Long Islanders came together Saturday to make thousands of meals to help feed the hungry.
More than 50 volunteers participated in Pronto of Long Island's feeding the hungry meal packaging event in Brentwood.
Volunteers formed an assembly line where they stacked, packaged and prepared foods to be shipped out to those in need.
The nonprofit group says many people in shelters do not have access to cooking supplies, which hampers their efforts to stop hunger on Long Island.
Pronto teamed up with a national program called the Outreach Program to make and distribute microwaveable and vitamin-fortified meals.
Volunteers at the event say the event is a great way to help those who don't have access to food, as well as bring the community together.
