Close to 5,000 family members, friends and first responders came to the Tilles Center in Brookville Wednesday to say their final goodbyes to slain FDNY paramedic Alison Russo.
The paramedic was posthumously promoted to the rank of FDNY captain at her funeral.
Russo, a 24-year veteran with the department, was stabbed and killed in an unprovoked attack last Thursday in Astoria, Queens.
Mayor Eric Adams And acting FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh told the crowd of mourners that Russo has left an indelible mark on the city, and that she "defined EMS."
In one of the most heartbreaking moments of the funeral, Russo's father, Frank, talked about security-camera footage that he found on the internet of his daughter being stabbed to death.
Russo's mother and father were handed her helmet as her casket was carried away by an EMS ambulance.
