Waulther Basilar, 27, died violently in Hempstead Friday. Cops say two men were assaulting him on Centre Street when he was able to escape and run off.
Unfortunately, Basilar ran into the path of an oncoming car. Police say neither the driver nor Basilar saw each other. He died as a result of his injuries.
The victim's father, who spoke through an interpreter, says nothing will bring his son back but his family hopes to find solace by learning who's responsible for his death.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the incident to step forward and call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. A $2,000 reward has been offered for information that helps solve the crime.
