(AP) - Relatives of victims of the TWA Flight 800disaster gathered to mark the 13th anniversary of the crashoff Long Island.
Families came together at oceanfront Smith Point County Park inShirley on Friday night.
Many say the commemoration has become more like a family reunionas the years have passed. The Boeing jumbo jet exploded in midair, killing 230 people on July 17, 1996.
John Seaman, chairman of Families of Flight 800, says returningto the park near where the plane exploded provides comfort for thesurvivors.
Every year, the names of the victims are recited at a memorialwall and relatives toss flowers into the ocean.
A four-year investigation determined that TWA 800 was destroyedby a center fuel-tank explosion - likely caused by a spark from ashort-circuit.
