Fallen airman from North Brunswick honored during 2-mile ‘ruck’

People gathered in North Brunswick Saturday to honor U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Richard Samaroo, who died in South Korea last November while on duty. He was 21 years old.
Friends, family and military veterans honored him with an over two-mile ruck around North Brunswick Community Park, where they say was his favorite place to run.
Samaroo was also a graduate of the North Brunswick High School class of 2017.
People in the march carried American flags, food for the North Brunswick Food Bank and toiletries for local veterans homes.
Samaroo was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal, the M-16 Expert Qualifying Medal and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
"He always had a smile. I don't think I ever saw him not smiling,” said Laura Pelszynski, the event’s organizer. “He was just a very genuine and kind and loving young man…It's a terrible loss for everyone. For his friends and family for sure."
His father, Richard Samaroo Sr., says that he was everything to his family.
“This is really a great honor in his name,” he says.
The food and donations will be given to the North Brunswick Community Food Bank and the local American Legion Post 459.
The cause of Airmen Samaroo’s death is unknown and remains under investigation.
