Extreme temperatures to blanket Long Island to start the week

News 12 meteorologists said feel-like temperatures could climb to nearly 105 degrees. Extreme temperatures will persist through Tuesday night, with some cooler air expected on Wednesday, although it will still be dangerously hot.

Beaches across the island are expected to be a little busier than usual for those looking to take a break from the heat by the ocean breeze or in the water.

Several towns on Long Island are taking steps to keep residents cool this week.

Tips to stay safe:

Nassau County

Nassau County

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said there will be cooling centers at Cantiague and Wantagh Parks that will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but a cooling center at Mitchell Field will stay open 24 hours.

Town of Hempstead

Extending beach to 7 p.m. and pool hours to 8 p.m. through Wednesday
Cooling centers will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Baldwin, Valley Stream, Salisbury and Uniondale/Hempstead

Town of North Hempstead

Cooling Centers at “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury and Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Extended pool hours at Clinton G. Marin Park Pool in New Hyde Park and Manorhaven Beach Park Pool in Port Washington
Spray pads will stay on until 9 p.m. at Blumenfeld Park, Fuschillo Park, Mary Jane Davies Green and Donald Street Park through Wednesday

Town of Oyster Bay

Pools are opening earlier in the season due to the heat wave.
The community pools at Tappen, Plainview and Bethpage will open Tuesday, June 24.
The community pools at Syosset and Marjorie Post parks will open Saturday, June 28.
A cooling center at the Bethpage Ice Rink community room is now open.

Suffolk County

Town of Babylon

Town Hall Annex in North Babylon is open 24/7

Town of East Hampton

Amagansett Free Library, East Hampton Library, Montauk Library and the Senior Center act as cooling centers and will be open during normal business hours.

Town of Huntington

Flanning Center will be open until 5 p.m. as a cooling center
Gold Star Battalion, Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart and Centerport Beaches open with stationed lifeguards until 8 p.m.
Dix Hills Poll will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday
Elwood and Manor Field spray parks will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Huntington residents are permitted to use the Dix Hills Pool and Manor Field and Elwood spray parks for free during the duration of the weather advisory. Proof of residency is required.

Town of Smithtown

The splash park at Hoyt Farms/Charles P. Toner Park on Armory Road and Memorial Park on Moriches Road are open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
