Experts say parents need to censor what their children are watching as violent images and videos of the recent attacks on Israel circulate over social media.
Psychiatrist Liat Jarkson, of the Psychiatrist Center for Behavior Health at the New York Institute of Technology, says if children have question, adults should keep it simple.
“There’s absolutely no reason for them to be exposed to that,” Jarkon says. “As a parent, take precautions, remove the phone, remove the apps and explain to them in a language they would understand based on their age what’s going on – that there are countries at war, bad things happen, we’re OK right now, that’s all they need to know.”
Jarkon also says it is helpful to reassure children that the war is not happening in their backyard and that they are safe.
Before discussing the topic with children, adults should make sure not to impose their own anxiety on their children.
