Experts are urging residents with the charities they donate to ahead of Giving Tuesday,

Consultant Karen Signoracci says anyone looking to give back should go to the IRS’ website and to make sure a nonprofit is registered.

She also warns people not to click on anything unsolicited, stick with charities they knew and be wary of any request that is overly emotional.

“Nonprofits should be telling their story, and they should be telling it well, but they shouldn’t go in too hard and too overly emotional because that really is way to kind of suck people in and sometimes it’s done in a very inauthentic and unscrupulous manner,” Signoracci says.

It's not always necessary to give money. Residents can also give clothes, food and toys.
