In a new development for Long Island travelers, MacArthur Airport will soon offer nonstop daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The announcement, made by Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, was revealed during a taping of News 12’s "Power and Politics" on Friday.

According to Supervisor Carpenter, the new flights will begin in April, marking a significant expansion for JetBlue. This change will increase the frequency of nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, which currently operates approximately four days a week.

For many Long Islanders, the news is welcomed with enthusiasm. Many passengers say the convenience of flying out of MacArthur Airport—often considered less crowded and more accessible than larger airports—makes it a preferred choice. The upcoming addition of daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, along with other recently announced routes such as daily service to Boston starting April 30, has sparked optimism for even more travel options from the airport in the future.

"It's going to be a great thing for Long Island," said Maureen Flynn, of Bayport, expressing her excitement about the expanded flight options. "I'm very happy about it."

Fred Falco, a traveler from Riverhead, echoed similar sentiments. "It’s nice, it’s comfortable, it’s relaxing. That’s what I like about it. If I could fly all over the world out of here, I would," he said.
