A Central Islip homeowner who said her puppy was taken from her backyard has been reunited with 10-week-old Gracie.
News 12 Long Island reported Friday that the incident happened around 8 a.m. Thursday on Connetquot Avenue.
Danielle Ambrecht said her dogs like to peek their heads underneath a fence to watch people, and she did not think the suspect opened the gate. She believes the puppy, a 10-week-old toy Australian shepherd named Gracie whom she had adopted three days earlier, was grabbed from under the gate.
Surveillance video shows a man in a dark hoodie and gray pants walking on the side of Connetquot Avenue and then walking right up the neighbor's driveway. About 20 seconds later, he is seen walking away.
Ambrecht spoke with News 12 Long Island Saturday morning and said an anonymous caller reached out to her after seeing the story. That caller told her the location of the dog, which was at a house about a mile away.
She then said she alerted police who went and retrieved the dog and held onto it until she was off from work. She then went and retrieved Gracie.
Ambrecht said she is thankful to the community for helping her find Gracie.
"The community was absolutely amazing, everybody that I spoke to, that saw the flyers. I even had people that were calling me, wishing me luck, even after it was put up on Facebook that my puppy was found, people messaging me all day saying they're happy my puppy is back home," she said.
