A former employee at a Dix Hills residential facility was arrested for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old female resident at the facility over the summer.
Hayden Daley was arraigned in criminal court in Central Islip on Saturday. He was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of criminal sex act and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Because of the sensitive nature of the crime, pictures of the suspect were not allowed. Bail was set at $80,000 cash.
Daley, 27, of Deer Park, worked at WellLife Network at 43 Arista Drive where he “began a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old resident at the facility on July 3,” Suffolk police said in a release.
It was not immediately clear what job Daley performed at WellLife.
News 12 reached out to WellLife for comment but had not heard back as of Saturday evening.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case or if they may have been a victim to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
According to its website, WellLife Network provides “a wide variety of personalized behavioral health services to individuals coping with the many challenges brought on by emotional problems and mental illness."
The facility operates residences in Setauket and Dix Hills that "provides an eight-bed group home for adolescents diagnosed as seriously emotionally disturbed."
Laura Ahern is a local victims advocate. She said these types of crimes against this vulnerable teen population are common.
"These are the opportunities for sexual predators who can get into those clubs, organizations or institutions, establish relationships, look for vulnerabilities and engage a child or teen in that grooming process," she said.
Daley is due back in court on Jan. 25.
