The estranged wife of the accused Gilgo Beach serial killer is reiterating her belief that Rex Heuermann is not capable of the crimes he is charged with, according to a statement from her attorney.
In a statement released by Asa Ellerup’s attorney, she says, “I will listen to all of the evidence and withhold judgment until the end of the trial. I have given him the benefit of the doubt, as we all deserve.”
Ellerup’s attorney said the reason his client is speaking now is because she has had the opportunity to meet with Heuermann multiple times at the jail and wanted to repeat to the public that she does not think he is capable of the crimes.
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the murders of four women whose remains were found near Gilgo Beach 13 years ago.
