Four miles east of historic Jones Beach is where you'll find a smaller, but just as fun summer spot filled with things to do.
It's one of the best places in the Town of Oyster Bay to visit. Visitors can hit the sand on the southside to take a dip in the ocean -- or head to calmer waters off the Great South Bay on the north side.
The bayside is a great place to ease into the water -- so smaller kids can run along the sand and not get knocked down by any waves. And just steps from the sand are two great waterfront restaurants to hop into for a relaxing lunch -- happy hour -- or sunset dinner.
The Boatyard offers great food and drinks - but the draw is the incredible live music, with different bands and sounds every weekend. The Surf Shack is a slice of Key West -- calling themselves a Flip Flop Coastal Kitchen. Their Tiki Hut bar sets the scene for a perfect summertime drink.
But the best part of Tobay for kids -- is the spray park playground. Complete with splash and play water features -- to keep the kids -- and adults -- cool during hot summer days.
Tobay is free for Town of Oyster Bay
residents. For non-residents it's $30 for the day at the beach -- or
free parking for two hours when you tell the booth workers you're there to eat at one of the restaurants.
There's still a whole lot of summer to soak up -- so don't miss this special South Shore spot.
