Officials say an elderly woman died today after falling down an escalator at the Long Island Rail Road station in Lindenhurst.
Railroad officials say after she apparently fell this afternoon, an off-duty conductor rushed to help.
The woman's identity has not yet been released.
LIRR officials say the incident is under investigation by MTA police and the escalator has been taken out of service for a safety inspection.
