A Suffolk County man is accused of misrepresenting himself as a law enforcement officer to avoid traffic tickets.
Prosecutors say Peterson Jules, 40, of East Patchogue, used his old identification and badge to get out of the citations.
The former employee of the New York City Health and Hospital Special Police allegedly displayed the images on his cellphone on four different occasions.
The incidents involved traffic stops conducted by Suffolk police in both Patchogue and Medford between Feb. 17 and June 4, where the man would identify himself as “a member of service,” according to the Suffolk DA’s office.
Jules had been terminated from his position in April 2022.
“The allegations against this defendant represent a deliberate pattern of violating traffic laws and evading accountability through criminal impersonation of a hospital police officer,” District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
Jules was arraigned Thursday on four counts of criminal impersonation in the second degree and was released without bail.
