East Patchogue boy walks out of school & into traffic

An East Patchogue mom wants to know how her son was able to walk out of school and into traffic Monday.Jacqueline Stevenson says she dropped her 6-year-old son, Daniel, off at Medford Elementary School.

An East Patchogue mom wants to know how her son was able to walk out of school and into traffic Monday.Jacqueline Stevenson says she dropped her 6-year-old son, Daniel, off at Medford Elementary School. She says she was running late, so she brought him to the office.Stevenson says instead of having someone take her son to the classroom, he was sent there by himself. She says he found his classroom empty and instead of staying, tried to walk home.Daniel's mother says he walked out the front door of the school and onto Sunrise Highway. She says a Good Samaritan saw her son and stopped.
The Patchogue-Medford School District issued an apology for the "unfortunate incident." The district says it will make sure monitors are positioned at the end of each hallway from now on.
