An East Meadow father is turning his son's tragic death from drugs into something positive and meaningful to the community.

Sean Mullady's son, Sage, died of a fentanyl overdose in 2022. He was 26 years old.

Mullady said he misses his son every day.

"He was just a kid," Mullady said. "He took the wrong thing and it killed him instantly."

Mullady and Sage shared a love for music.

"He was a DJ. He loved his music," Mullady said. "After my son died, I didn't pick up a guitar for a year."

After difficult times and Mullady battling addiction himself, he's now turned his son's memory into something even more meaningful.

"I go directly into rehabs because I've sat in those chairs and I tell them the story about my son and how I got through it," he said, "and I play them the songs and there's lots of tears and there's lots of laughter."

His organization is called SAGE, named after his son. Mullady says it also stands for Serene and Grateful Entertainment.

"It's a really, really good way to honor him," he said.

All of his songs are originals.

"It's really, really healing for the clients and for the people that are in there to have somebody come in and bring music on a rainy Monday day," Mullady said. "It really uplifts them."

During our interview with Sean, he said today marks two years to the day that SAGE started performing at rehab centers across Long Island and he hopes he's having an impact on those he's performing for.

"Somebody can make it through the other side, especially a parent that's lost their child," Mullady said.

SAGE has a performance coming up on Aug. 29 at Paradise Studios in Massapequa from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free.
