East End: Woodside Orchards  

It is time for apple picking. And there's one place that's been in business for more than four decades. The classic our Doug Gee pays a visit to Woodside Orchards for this week's east end in the 25 or so years that we've been doing this. Probably one of the better crops that we've had. The apple trees are loaded right now at orchards across Long Island and there's many great places where you can pick your own. We have customers that come back and take the same picture on the same porch of the apple shed. Year after year after year, Woodside Orchards has two locations including here in Jamesport where they have about five, 4000 trees. We have about 18 different varieties we grow right now. We're an older orchard. So a lot of people have heard of our varieties like Courtland are big hunt. Adore are big for us. Mutsu are big for us. Empire. Those are old school classics, right? They are just a little west of that. You'll find Woodside's second location. Route 25 A. They have a much smaller orchard out back where you pick is allowed only on weekdays. It's right out back by their patio seating area and umbrella tables. This location is where they produce and sell their very popular hard cider. We have six different ciders on tap. Right now. We have our staples, the traditional traditional sweet cinnamon. We'll be releasing a pumpkin cider. We also have a blueberry guava. We also have a lemon cider and people like coming in and mixing and matching to match their palate cinnamon cider. For instance, people love it and don't want it changed. For me personally, there might be a touch too much cinnamon in it. So I'll cut it with the traditional and if hard cider is not your thing, they also produce a line of wines. Five right now. Also a new product, a kind of sparkling cider cider that's fermented on grape skins. It's bone dry, it's very refreshing and people love it.
