East End: Turkeys raised on Long Island
They have an unmistakable gobble, but turkeys are also very curious animals - and they love to eat!
Holly Browder and her husband Chris run Browder's Birds
, an organic chicken farm in Mattituck. For the past few years, they've also been raising turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Tom Festa, his wife, and children run 8 Hands Farm
in Cutchogue. They raise organic turkeys for Thanksgiving. Along with grass and bugs, these birds also enjoy pumpkins.
Both farms raise about 100 turkeys to sell at Thanksgiving - part of a growing trend of people buying organic, locally raised meats.
