Nassau residents were mostly spared by the latest winter storm to hit Long Island, but some Suffolk residents are now tasked with digging out from 6 inches of fresh snow.
On the East End, blowing snow made driving difficult. Winds that came sweeping off the North Fork's open farm fields left roads covered in fresh snow.
Flooding was also an issue in places like Dune Road in Westhampton. Water from the Peconic River spilled over in Downtown Riverhead onto the boardwalk behind Main Street.
Star Confectionary, a Riverhead luncheonette, has only closed a few times in the 100 years that Anthony Meras' family has owned it. But it was closed today.
Meras said he didn't want a repeat of last week, when a separate snowstorm hit. "Friday we opened and we kind of sat around, and we probably paid PSEG and National Grid more than we made," he said.
