There are a lot of farm stands on the East End where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and now, more and more are also selling prepared foods.
Born in Germany and raised in Belgium, Aki Goldberg - the daughter of Holocaust survivors - first came to the U.S. while on vacation as a child. She was smitten by New York, and at 10 years old, told her parents she wanted to live here. Now, she does.
Her other passion is food, and she turned that passion into a business - Aki's Kitchen.
She uses produce from area farms to create a line of prepared foods. Her main focus is soup.
Aki makes soups, salads and sweets, so there's also everything from chicken salad to cheesecake. Aki sells her food at farmers markets, and at several East End farms where she buys the produce, including at the 1760 Homestead Farm in Riverhead.
