Voters came out to polls Saturday for early voting in Democratic primaries across Long Island.

One of most closely watch races is in Suffolk County where Democrats Nancy Gorofff and John Avlon are vying for the party nomination in the 1st Congressional District.

The winner will face Republican Nick LaLota in the general election.

"I want someone who will work in a bipartisan manner in Congress," explained Phil Tamberino, of South Huntington.

Long Islanders are also getting a chance to cast early ballots in five Democratic races for state Senate and Assembly in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Town Democratic primaries are also being held in Riverhead and on Shelter Island.

"It's my civic duty [to vote]," said Brandi Goldstein from Dix Hills.
