? An East Setauket teacher disciplining a student allegedly took it too far.
Matthew Foster, a physical education and health teacher at the Paul J. Gelinas Junior High School, is accused of duct taping a student?s legs together. When the student tried to stand up, he apparently fell over and broke his arm.
Suffolk police arrested 52-year-old Foster, of Shoreham, and charged him with endangering the welfare of a minor and third-degree assault, both misdemeanors. He was released on bail.
In a statement, Frank Carasiti of the Three Village School District said, ?We are deeply concerned for the well-being of the student victim. The actions of the teacher are deplorable and reprehensible.
?Our district does not tolerate any physical discipline.?
School officials said Foster has been placed on administrative leave for the time being.
