Police say a driver has been arrested in hit-and-run in Bellmore that left a young woman in critical condition.

The incident happened around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Bedford Avenue.

Police say Ashley Martin, 26, of Lindenhurst, turned herself in at the 7th Precinct 40 minutes after the accident occurred last night.

Martin was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury.

Police say Martin struck a 20-year-old at the busy intersection.

The young woman sustained a serious head injury and is currently in the hospital fighting for her life.
