The friend of a man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash is urging the driver to turn themselves in.
Alberto Perea Vazquez was crossing Horseblock Road in Farmingville on Dec. 11, when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The 56-year-old was then hit by a second car that stayed. Vazquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are releasing new video of the incident that appears to show the driver briefly getting out of the vehicle before taking off. There is also a photo of the suspect’s car.
The vehicle is described as a gray 2003 to 2007 Honda Accord. It was missing its passenger-side rear-view mirror after the crash.
Joe Loliscio says he knew Vazquez for more than 20 years. He says the driver should surrender to police.
“If you stayed there the second car wouldn’t have hit him. He might have survived. If you would have stayed there, he wouldn’t have gotten killed. You should turn yourself in," Loliscio says.
Police are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
