Driver killed in late‑night two‑vehicle crash in Elizabeth

A late‑night crash left one driver dead Tuesday after two vehicles collided in Elizabeth.

According to a spokesperson for the Elizabeth Police Department, the crash occurred at about 11:42 p.m. Tuesday night between two vehicles on Elizabeth Avenue.

The spokesperson said the driver of one of the vehicles died as a result of the crash. The second vehicle was occupied by two people. Police say they remained at the scene.

"The deceased was the sole occupant of their vehicle," police said.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released and police say the incident remains under investigation.

Elizabeth Avenue is a heavily traveled roadway located within a few blocks of both the Elizabeth Police Department and the Union County Courthouse.
