Mechanical issues on the Meadowbrook Parkway and Loop Parkway drawbridges created a traffic nightmare Saturday for some Long Island drivers.
A spokesman for the state Department of Transportation said that the DOT "responded to the Meadowbrook Parkway and Loop Parkway drawbridges today following mechanical issues. Both bridges have reopened."
Callers into the News 12 newsroom said they had been inside their cars at a standstill for hours.
At 5:26 p.m., Nassau's Traffic Management Center tweeted that "all lanes" were closed and to expect delays. It was given an all clear an hour later.
“Additional crews will be on standby throughout the remainder of the weekend in case additional issues arise,” said the spokesman.
