Dozens walked at Jones Beach Tuesday evening to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving and to remember those who lost their lives because of it.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) held its Annual Walk Like MADD, kicking off the walk at the Northwell Theater At Jones Beach.

MADD NY/NJ/PA regional development director Tara Spohrer says the goal is to bring those impacted by drunk driving together to raise awareness about what she refers to as a preventable issue.

"The average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before their first arrest,” she said. “That's just mind blowing."

Alisa McMorris, of Wading River, lost her son Andrew to a drunk driver almost six years ago. She says this annual walk is vital for the families impacted by drunk drivers.

"Having an event like this brings victims and families together to not only support each other, but to have hope that we can end this,” she said.
