Dozens of building workers in the Bronx walked off the job Tuesday hoping to have their demands for a new contract met.
Porters, handymen and doormen, all members of the 32 BJ union, are picketing at the Concourse Village Houses. About six Bronx buildings are affected by the walkout. The striking workers say after peaceful protests last week, management intimidated them and added new rules without union approval. That's why the workers say they had no choice but to strike.
Union leaders say the current contract expired in April. They are calling for a three-year contract with a pay hike and changes to pension and health care benefits.
