Some Dowling College students say they have graduated and paid for their diplomas, but still haven't received them.
Recent graduate Jacqueline Wiswall says she paid the $150 graduation fee and was told she would be getting her diploma in July.
"We do still deserve a degree. We paid for it, we worked very hard for it and it's horrible that they are not giving us what we paid for and what we deserve," she says.
The company that makes the diplomas says that the problem is that the school has not paid them yet. It also says it would issue an e-diploma, but it does not have the list of students who need one.
Late Monday, Dowling released a statement in which it says it provided the company handling the diplomas with a check to make them available for May. It says there was an outstanding balance from January, and the check intended for the May diplomas was used for that. The college adds that it's working to remedy the situation.
As News 12 has reported, Dowling College announced last month that it would shut down for good following an 11th-hour attempt by alumni and officials to keep the college open.
