It's been one year since a horrific Long Island Expressway crash claimed six lives, and one of the victims is being remembered today with an act of kindness.
Scott Martella, 29, was killed when an out-of-control car slammed into his vehicle in Manorville. Supplies were being loaded today into bookbags for the Scott Martella Back to School Drive.
Martella was the communications director for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. The county executive says Martella cared deeply about helping those in need.
"He was not about himself," says Bellone. "He was trying always to raise others, to help others, to help people achieve their full potential as individuals."
Officials are hoping to fill 5,000 backpacks for children in need.
