There are allegations of child abuse at a West Hempstead school.

A parent sent News 12 a letter from the West Hempstead Union Free School District saying it "has opened a case of alleged child abuse in an education setting concerning an incident involving their child."

The district told News 12 it is aware of the allegations and that has taken all appropriate steps in reporting the claims.

School officials also say the individual accused of abuse has not been employed with the district since last school year.

News 12 reached out to Nassau County police who say they do not comment on child abuse investigations.
