The Diocese of Rockville Centre has confirmed that the Nassau County District Attorney's Office is investigating an associate pastor at a Levittown church for possible possession of child pornography.
Father Joseph Nohs, of St. Bernard's Church, is not permitted to present himself as a priest pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Diocese of Rockville Centre says they are not aware of any other accusations of sexual misconduct against Nohs.
"Please pray for all survivors of sexual exploitation and abuse, and for an end to the scourge of the abuse of minors everywhere," says Sean Dolan, director of communications for the diocese.
There are currently no charges as the investigation is ongoing.
Tom Brennan, of Willison Park, says investigations involving the Catholic Church are still happening because they were not dealt with property a generation ago.
"You would think something so overly wrong would be recognized as such, dealt with and put in our past – but that didn't happen," Brennan says.
Anyone with information concerning the abuse of a minor can contact law enforcement and the Diocesan Office for the Protection of Children and Young People at 516-594-9063.
