A car crashed into a house in Huntington Station Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at around 5:30 a.m. at a home on Hillwood Drive off of Richmond Place.
Suffolk police say that Dinia Chirinos, 22, was driving her Subaru Forester when she lost control. Chirinos drove across two different lawns and took out shrubs and fences before crashing into the front of the house. She claims that her brakes failed.
Part of the home went up in flames after the car engine caught fire. Amy Worth, 59, was in the house at the time of the crash, but was not injured. Responding firefighters were able to put out the flames, but not before most of the house was destroyed.
Police say they do not believe drugs and alcohol were involved in the incident.
Chirinos was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Her bail was set at $5,000.
Chirinos is expected to return to the courtroom Wednesday.
