Police say a 79-year-old man was found dead and a 49-year-old woman in serious condition inside a Copiague home Monday night.
Police say they responded to the home on 41st Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday. When they got there, the unidentified man was already dead.
The woman was rushed to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Detectives are investigating the carbon monoxide levels within the residence but have not confirmed anything yet. The house is now condemned and the windows are open to air out the home.
Neighbors say the man lived in the area for a long time and was very friendly.
"It's devastating," says Maritza Almonte. "I'm so sad to hear that."
Authorities say the incident appears to be non-criminal.
Police have not released the identities of the two people found inside the home.
