The recent cold snap has been uninviting to Long Island residents who work outdoors during the winter months.
Shelter Island ferry worker Jack Gibb is used to the frigid weather. He has worked for the North Ferry Company for 30 years.
"What's really the worst is 32 degrees and raining," Gibb told News 12. "You can't wear gloves because they get wet and your hands are about ready to break."
Gloves are a must for workers at Pindar Vineyards. They spend the entire winter pruning hundreds of acres of vines.
"We start in mid-December and we have 375 acres, so we'll be doing this for the next four months," said Peter Gristina, of Pindar Vineyards.
The deep freeze is expected to stick around through Saturday.
