Police say a dead infant wrapped in sheets was discovered by a worker at a linen cleaning service in Oceanside Tuesday.
The laundry was picked up from South Nassau Communities Hospital. A hospital spokesperson says the baby girl was born Sunday, four months premature and lived for about 30 minutes before being declared dead by the hospital staff. Police say the 10-ounce infant's body was listed as being at the hospital morgue awaiting family funeral arrangements.
The hospital is conducting an internal investigation into how the infant got picked up with the laundry. Police are also conducting an investigation into the incident.
