Megan Marchena, a former teacher at Tutor Time in Lindenhurst was indicted Friday for alleged abuse and child endangerment.

She was arrested a year ago after she pushed a toddler back into her cot during naptime. The child split her lip and had to get stitches.

The Suffolk District Attorney's Office says since then, they received more calls from parents and staff members at Tutor Time and the place Marchena previously worked alleging inappropriate behavior with other kids.

Detectives say they learned of another incident from Jan. 10 last year. Marchena picked up a toddler by his torso with his head and legs dangling and dropped him into his cot from standing height.

Katie O’Toole says her son was going to the daycare at the time of these incidents.

“I’m glad to hear the young lady is being brought in and indicted, because that is something that definitely shouldn’t have gotten to where it did,” O’Toole said. “It was a scary situation. But it seems like Tutor Time is really keeping their word and amping up on safety and training and making sure the kids that they care for are really cared for.”

The district attorney said Friday that Marchena’s actions are a betrayal of trust, and parents have the right to expect their kids will be safe in a classroom.

Marchena will be back in court March 31.
