Numerous water main breaks are creating issues around New Jersey.

Crews were out replacing a water line in Lincroft, the East Brunswick Water Utility Department was handling a break on Ryder’s Lane near Civic Center Drive and crews were working on a break at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Lincoln Avenue East in Cranford.

Water companies across the state say that the cold weather can be a contributing factor in these water main breaks. They say cold water flowing through old pipes can cause them to contract and break. And the freezing and thawing of soil can cause movement, leaving pipes unsupported.
