The man accused of driving drunk and killing four people in a crash at a Deer Park nail salon had a prior DWI conviction, according to court documents.
Steven Schwally, 64, had a DWI arrest in March 2013. Charging documents show Schwally struck a mailbox on Weathervane Way in Dix Hills, and then fled the scene. Police say he was found a short time later asleep behind the wheel. The keys were in the ignition and the engine was running.
Suffolk police also cited Schwally for talking on a handheld mobile phone while driving in 2001. He has been issued several speeding tickets from police in multiple states, dating back to the 1980s.
Schwally is currently being held on $2 million bond.
