A Northport Middle School custodian arrested last week is facing multiple felony weapons charges, according to court documents.
Scott Leonhardt allegedly had a loaded AK-47 and another loaded semi-automatic rifle at his home, as well as multiple high-capacity magazines.
Prosecutors say Leonhardt also had an unsecured 9 mm ghost gun while watching his son at a different home in Suffolk County.
Police were seen at Northport Middle School last Wednesday night. A spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office says Leonhardt was transported to his home where a search warrant was executed and he was arrested.
Northport-East Northport School District Superintendent David Moyer wrote in an email to parents last Thursday, “While these charges have no direct connection to the district or any of its students, upon learning of this, the district took immediate action to restrict this employee's access to all district property and access to students or staff.”
The school district would not comment Tuesday after the nature of the charges came to light.
Leonhardt pleaded not guilty. His defense attorney declined to comment.
