Police confirm that there was a drive-by shooting at Heckscher Park early Monday.
According to police, shots were fired at a small maintenance vehicle used at the park in a work area between Main Street 25A and Sabbath Day Path.
Town officials say the maintenance worker in the vehicle was not injured.
According to police, the shooter was in a vehicle and fled the scene.
Police also told News 12 that the incident was a targeted shooting. They would not say if the person who was shot at was a town employee.
No injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.
The shooting surprised those who live in the area.
"That's definitely a bit concerning," says Huntington resident Nick Isernia. "This is usually a pretty safe neighborhood."
Huntington Town Hall and the Huntington Senior Center were placed on lockdown as a precaution, along with area schools. They have since reopened.
Police cleared the scene by Monday afternoon, but broken glass could still be seen from the maintenance vehicle that was hit.
Suffolk police are still investigating the incident.
