Coram man pleads guilty in shooting of Suffolk police officer

A Coram man accused of shooting a Suffolk police officer pleaded guilty Monday to attempted aggravated murder of an officer and robbery.

Janell Funderburke admitted to shooting officer Michael Lafauci in the leg in May 2023.

Prosecutors say Funderburke was running from the officer while he was being investigated for an armed robbery in the area.

Funderburke is facing 25 years to life in prison and is set to be sentenced on July 11.
