Police say a Ronkonkoma nurse's aide betrayed her patient's trust by stealing a terminally ill woman's identity.
According to police, 44-year-old Brenda Skidmore stole a credit card from a patient being treated for brain cancer at John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson. The patient's daughter contacted police after noticing the unauthorized purchases.
Investigators say they recovered surveillance footage of Skidmore, still clad in her scrubs, using the card at Target and Walmart. Skidmore was arrested in the hospital's parking lot Thursday morning.
According to police, she had two other stolen credit cards in her possession at the time of her arrest.
Police believe there may be other victims. Anyone who feels they have potentially been targeted is being advised to contact Suffolk County's Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
