? Suffolk police tell News 12 Long Island that the cause of the deadly house explosion that leveled a Brentwood home is related to propane. However, the source of the ignition is still under investigation.
The explosion happened on Prospect Drive around 11:55 a.m. yesterday and injured 17 people.
Investigators say their initial investigation points to a gas-related explosion, but National Grid said there is no natural gas service in the area. Upon further investigation, police found two 200-pound propane tanks were on the premises. It is not clear what the tanks were used for.
Police identified the deceased baby as Rah-quan Palmer. They say his parents Christina Morgan, 23, and Rashamel Palmer, 28, were injured in the explosion. The other residents injured in the blast were identified by police as Calvin Harris, 23, and Irving Justiniano, 63.
Authorities say that Michael Ray, 48, a plumber, and Patricia Salegna-Maqueda, 46, an insurance representative, were injured while at the house when it exploded. They say two other people, Patricia Arnoth, 47, and her son Michael Arnoth, 24, were also injured in the explosion.
A Town of Islip spokesperson says that its chief building inspector has determined that two homes adjacent to the house are no longer structurally sound.
